A 35-year-old Florida man was sentenced to prison after calling a mosque and leaving a message that said, “I’m gonna shoot all ya’ll,” the U.S. state attorney reported.

Gerald S. Wallace, of Miami, pleaded guilty in October to one count of obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs for making call. He was sentenced Wednesday to 12 months and one day in prison and three years’ supervised release.

“Hate crimes violate our country’s most fundamental principles,” said U.S. Attorney Benjamin G. Greenberg in a news release. “Wallace was sentenced for depriving the Islamic Center’s congregants of the right to freely exercise their religion.”

During the plea hearing, Wallace admitted that on the evening of Feb. 19, he left a hate-filled, profanity-laden voicemail message for the Islamic Center of Greater Miami that threatened to shoot members of the Miami Gardens mosque.

He was arrested Feb. 27 and booked into jail on a $100,000 bond.
