Court Orders Self-Proclaimed Islamophobe

to Pay CAIR-Florida $43K Attorney Fees

(MIAMI, FL, 6/21/18) – The Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida), the state’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced a Final Judgement from the 17thJudicial Circuit Court in Broward County ordering self-proclaimed islamophobe David Rosenthal to pay over $42,000.00 in attorney fees and costs to CAIR-Florida and its directors Hassan Shibly, Nezar Hamze, and Wilfredo Ruiz.

David Rosenthal, director for Citizens’ Action Group of South Florida, sued CAIR-Florida and three of its directors: Hassan Shibly, Nezar Hamze and Wilfredo A. Ruiz, after CAIR-Florida reported an apparent mosque threat posted in his Facebook profile to law enforcement. The case was later dismissed.

Rosenthal’s Citizens’ Action Group of South Florida operates in Florida addition to other anti-Muslim hate groups like ACT for America, Citizens for National Security, Cultures in Context Incorporated/Turning Point Project, and The Straight Way and More. All hate groups have been listed in the Southern Poverty Law Center’s (SPLC) most recent Intelligence Report – The Year in Hate.

CAIR-Florida attorney Omar Saleh stated “The Court's ruling sends a strong message to those attempting to suppress speech regarding matters of public importance, in this case, a mosque threat. CAIR-Florida will not be deterred from reporting threats or hate crimes against our community and its places of worship. On our side were two very experienced attorneys, Darren Spielman and Robert Kain of Kain Spielman, P.A. who did an excellent job in representing the organization and its directors.”
