Powerful testimonial on Fatima's recent travel ordeal. She is a Princeton University Ph.D. Student subjected to CBP abuses, conducting an illegal search on her phone and later trying to prevent her from entering the U.S.; until CAIR-Florida got involved. Take a moment to watch this video and read the testimonial below.

In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful. I want to share with you a very trying experience I had while entering the United States. I was stopped for secondary questioning by US Customs and Border Protection and after several hours of questioning, I was informed that I would be denied entry into the United States. I was also informed that my F1 visa, the student visa that allows me to pursue my Ph.D. in the US, would be canceled. Due to the timely intervention of executive leadership at @cairflorida on my behalf, the decision was reversed and I was allowed entry into the US. I recently did an interview with @cairflorida about my experience, which I’m reposting here. I initially debated whether I should talk publicly about my ordeal, and was even advised by some well-meaning friends that I shouldn’t speak up about what happened to me. But this experience has taught me that there is nothing to be gained from staying silent in the face of injustice. I cannot divorce what happened to me from oppressive structures of xenophobia and Islamophobia. My experience is not an isolated incident, and several international Muslim students have found themselves in similar situations. As a Muslim, I’ve been raised to believe that God puts us in certain situations to test us, and to strengthen our trust in and reliance on Him. I want to thank @hshibly and @cairflorida for their amazing work. I also thank God for my family’s unwavering support, especially my sister Anisa and brother-in-law Amin. I humbly request that you keep me in your prayers 🙏🏾
