(Tampa, FL, 4/14/2016) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations – Florida (CAIR-Florida), the state’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, today announces that an article on Islamophobia was awarded by the Evangelical Press Association. The article was authored by Ken Chitwood, a religion scholar & PhD student at the University of Florida.  He was awarded the Evangelical Press Association (EPA) Higher Goals Student Writer of the Year award together with an award for his piece: “A Radical Response to Islamophobia” published in the Sojourners Magazine [https://sojo.net/magazine/august-2015/radical-response-islamophobia]. Ken Chitwood thanked CAIR – Florida’s Communications Director, Wilfredo A. Ruiz, for contributing and facilitating groundwork in the preparation for the awarded article: “Humbled, honored, to receive an Evangelical Press Association award for my writing with Sojourners on ‎Islamophobia & Christian-Muslim relations.  The EPA Higher Goals Student Writer of the Year award is just that type of inspiration, especially when it awards writing on Christian-Muslim relations. Thanks to Ruth Nasrullah, Wilfredo Amr Ruiz, Jon Huckins, Sandi Villarreal Middaugh, & especially my editor Betsy Shirley for their part in making this article a reality.”
