(TAMPA, FL—5/25/22) - The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida), the state’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today announced that it has received a grant from Frank R. Etheridge Nursing Education Fund at Central Florida Foundation to perform cultural competency training for hospice registered nurses (RNs) caring for Muslim patients in Central Florida.
With the support of The Central Florida Foundation, CAIR-Florida aims to provide necessary diversity, and cultural competency trainings to hospice centers across the state of Florida. Trained RNs who know and understand the needs of their Muslim patients will be better equipped to treat their patients with personalized care attuned to respect for their Muslim patients' human and constitutional rights.
In a statement, CAIR-Florida Executive Director Imam Abdullah Jaber expressed gratefulness for the grant:
“American Muslims are the fastest growing minority in the U.S. that have unfortunately historically been the target of discrimination and disenfranchisement. Through this grant, we aim to provide education to RNs that results in more effective and compassionate care.”
The Central Florida Foundation's grant will support the full cost of providing registered nurses’ (RN) trainings as well as the custom curriculum design and development, printed materials and resources, and delivery of the trainings.
CAIR-Florida encourages medical providers, hospitals, hospice providers, clinics in the state of Florida to reach out and schedule these free trainings for healthcare professionals.
