(TAMPA, FL, 6/6/2024) – The Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL), today condemned the massacre of 40 people by Israeli forces at a UN-run school in central Gaza.

An Israeli air raid on a UN-run school sheltering displaced Palestinians in central Gaza’s Nuseirat camp killed at least 40 people, 23 of whom were reportedly women and children, according to local government officials.

In a statement, CAIR-FL’s Policy Manager Mari Marks said:

Our hearts continue to break for the merciless atrocities happening in Gaza, at the hands of the Israeli government. Every number is attached to a name, a soul, a story that matters. We cannot become calloused by time and numbers.  The fact that the majority of our government still supports these actions and is participating in it, is simply heinous.

The European Union’s foreign policy chief Josep Borrell Fontelles said the Israeli attack on a UN-run school in Nuseirat refugee camp “must be independently investigated, in line with the last ICJ [International Court of Justice] order”.

The mission of CAIR-Florida is to protect civil rights, promote understanding of Islam, advocate for justice, and empower American Muslims.
