CAIR-Florida Received Community Service Award at Tampa Bay Islamic Charity Festival

(TAMPA, FL, 4/25/2016) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations-Florida (CAIR-Florida), the state’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, today announced that they were awarded the “2016 Community Service Award” by the Tampa Bay Muslim Alliance. The award was accepted by CAIR-Florida’s Chief Executive Director, Hassan Shibly, at the 19th Annual Islamic Charity Festival which took place on April 24th at the MacFarlane Park in Tampa. Other CAIR-FL staff in attendance were Director of Events, Majda Rahmanovic, and Research and Special Projects Coordinator, Muaaz Hassan.

“We are humbled to receive this award from one of Florida’s Muslim alliances. It helps us reaffirm our commitment to serve not only our Muslim community but also all of our fellow citizens throughout the state,” said Mr. Shibly.

The Islamic Charity Festival was organized to provide direct services to the Tampa Bay area’s disadvantaged residents. Among the many services provided were free medical tests along with the distribution of nonperishable food items, clothing, shoes, toys, and bicycles. The event took place in an environment of joy and camaraderie that includes children’s games, clown shows, and free meals featuring an all American BBQ. Over thirty organizations are represented in the Tampa Bay Muslim Alliance, among them: Alhamdulillah Islamic Dawah Center of Tampa Bay, Alfarooq Masjid Pinellas Park, Anjuman-e-Vajih Dawoodi Bohra Community, Barakallah Community, Brandon Islamic Center, Community Education Center, Community Family Life Center, Downtown Tampa Masjid, Islamic Academy of Florida, Islamic Center of Polk County - Winter Haven, Islamic Community of Tampa Bay, Islamic Education Center of Tampa, Islamic Medical Association of North America - Tampa Bay Chapter, Islamic Society of New Tampa, Islamic Society of Pinellas, ISRA Masjid Inc. Gibsonton, Madinatul Ilm, Masjid Al Momineen St.Petersburg, Masjid Ayeesha Lakeland FL, Masjid Omar, Muslim American Society of Tampa Bay, Muslim Students Doctors Association USF, One Nation Academy for Peace, Pakistani American Association of Tampa Bay, St. Petersburg Masjid, Tampa Bay Muslim Ismaili Community, United Muslim Association of Tampa Bay, United Muslim Foundation, Lake Mary Florida United Voices, and Universal Academy of Florida.
