Cuban-American Attorney, Thania Diaz Clevenger, appointed CAIR-Florida’s Chief Operations Director

(TAMPA, FL, 3/3/2020) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations - Florida (CAIR-Florida), the state’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, today announced the appointment of Attorney Thania Diaz Clevenger as Chief Operations Director.
 
Attorney Thania Diaz Clevenger has been with CAIR-Florida for eight (8) years. She initially joined the organization as the Civil Rights Coordinator on a part-time basis. Thania later was promoted to full-time and, eventually, became the Civil Rights/ Legal Department Director. She was responsible for growing the organization’s Civil Rights/ Legal Department into one of the strongest Civil Rights legal service providers for all people in the State of Florida.
 
Ms. Clevenger, a Cuban-American from Florida, holds a B.A. from St. Leo University and a Juris Doctor from Stetson College of Law. At the time of her appointment, she served as the organization’s Civil Rights Director in an exemplary manner. During that time she successfully implemented protocols that have improved efficiency in the legal department and has frequently been recognized for her outstanding achievement. For the past year, Thania took over the duties and responsibilities of Acting Operations Director.

She knows every detail of our operations and quickly made herself an invaluable part of our team.” said Hassan Shibly, CAIR-Florida’s Chief Executive Director. 
 
Shibly added, “Thania has earned our organization’s respect and appreciation for her hard work and professional ethics. It is truly remarkable that a Christian, Cuban-American, wife, and mother of two now directs the operations of the state’s largest Muslim civil liberties organization. She embodies CAIR-Florida’s ‘strength in diversity’ message.”
 
The newly-appointed Chief Operations Director, Diaz Clevenger, concluded, “I very much appreciate the support that I have received from the community and CAIR-Florida’s team of amazing professionals and volunteers over the years. I look forward to building on this support to meet the challenges of the future in strengthening our operations to better advocate, protect, and empower all Floridians."
