(Miami, Florida - 12/30/2020) – The Florida Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Florida), the state's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals affirming the dismissal of a lawsuit filed by anti-Muslim right-wing activist Laura Loomer and her company Illoominate Media against CAIR and CAIR-Florida. Laura Loomer was recently defeated as Republican candidate in the race for Florida's 21st congressional district. CAIR-Florida was represented by Darren Spielman from The Concept Law Group, PA
CAIR and CAIR-Florida will now seek their legal costs from Loomer.
Last year, the district court dismissed both CAIR and CAIR-Florida from Loomer's "nonsensical" lawsuit. Loomer had alleged—based on a prank that had long since been revealed not to be true—that CAIR had persuaded Twitter to ban the Islamophobic failed Congressional candidate from Twitter.

The Court also affirmed the dismissal of CAIR-Florida, noting that Loomer and her company "already admitted that they do not know of any underlying facts that would make CAIR-Florida liable for Twitter's ban of Loomer's account."
In a statement, CAIR Florida’s civil rights attorney Omar Saleh said: “It’s unfortunate that Ms. Loomer, who ran a campaign to serve a South Florida U.S. congressional district, chose to spend her time and resources spreading fear and hatred about Muslim Americans, many who live in that district, by pursuing a frivolous legal action against CAIR and CAIR-Florida. We are glad the Courts chose not to entertain what proved to be a waste of judicial resources.”
CAIR-Florida's mission is to enhance an understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
La misión de CAIR – Florida es mejorar la comprensión del Islam, proteger las libertades civiles, promover la justicia, y empoderar a los musulmanes en los Estados Unidos.
