CAIR & CAIR-Florida Welcome Senate Watchlist Report, Reiterate Call for FBI to Stop Dissemination of Watchlist  

(Miami, Fla. – 12/19/23) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today welcomed the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee’s report Mislabeled as a Threat: How the Terrorist Watchlist and Government Screening Processes Impact Americans.  

CAIR-Florida Media and Outreach Director Wilfredo Ruiz stated: “This is a s significant step in the right direction. Ruiz added “We will continue to work until the US Government stop the wrongful use and prejudicial dissemination of this baseless and inaccurate watchlist.”

In September, CAIR and CAIR Florida announced the filing of a lawsuit with a dozen plaintiffs seeking an end to the government’s secret watchlist that almost exclusively targets Muslims for harassment and humiliation when they travel.  

CAIR-Florida’s mission is to protect civil rights, enhance understanding of Islam, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.
