CAIR-FL Disapproves of President Biden’s Visit to Tampa Amidst Gaza Atrocities

(TAMPA, FL – April 24, 2024) – The Florida chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-FL) today expressed disapproval of President Joe Biden’s campaign stop in Tampa amidst the ongoing atrocities and genocide in Gaza. The Biden administration’s failure to address these grave violations of human rights is deeply concerning and stains the moral fabric of our nation.

The Tampa community stands in solidarity with the Palestinian people who are enduring unimaginable suffering and loss due to the brutal Israeli military assault on Gaza funded by the U.S. President Biden’s visit sends the wrong message and undermines efforts to achieve justice and peace in the region.

Additionally, CAIR-FL highlights the successful protest held in front of the Hillsborough Community College Dale Mabry campus during President Biden’s visit. The protest, attended by many members of the Tampa community, showcased the widespread disapproval of Biden’s advocacy for women’s rights while ignoring the plight of women in Palestine. Despite advocating for women’s rights globally, the Biden administration’s complicity in the ongoing genocide in Gaza contradicts its purported values.

The protest garnered significant media attention, shedding light on the voices of those who demand accountability and justice for the Palestinian people. CAIR-FL reiterates the importance of holding leaders accountable for their actions and urges President Biden to prioritize human rights and justice for all.

CAIR-Florida’s Policy Manager, Mari Marks said:

“President Biden’s characterization of Palestinian Human Rights activists as ‘antisemitic’ is inappropriate and disparaging. True antisemitism is gravely concerning and watered down every time someone uses the word unjustly.”

Mari added, “it is an insult to every Jewish American activist standing shoulder to shoulder with Christian, Muslim, and Atheist protestors. If Biden wants to win this election, he needs to stop condemning human rights activists, ostracizing Gen Z voters, and ignoring a huge portion of his base that do not want their government complicit in human rights crimes.”
