(TAMPA, FL, 4/11/2016) – The Council on American-Islamic Relations Florida (CAIR-Florida), the state’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization, today announced two new staff appointments in its Legal Department. Majda Rahmanovic was appointed Community Outreach and Events Director and Amber Soofi was appointed Civil Rights Coordinator.

Majda Rahmanovic holds a B.A. degree from Lake Forest College in Religious Studies and History and an M.A. Degree in Religious Studies from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Previous to her Director’s appointment, she served as CAIR-Florida’s Civil Rights Coordinator in an exemplary manner. She is "excited to start a new chapter with CAIR-FL". She looks forward working with the community and allies to enhance our mission and fulfill our goals. “We are proud to add Majda to our Director’s staff. She’s an accomplished professional who is very capable of reaching out to our community in a gentle, informed, and skillful way. Her addition will augment an already outstanding group, making it shine well and farther”, said CAIR-Florida’s Chief Executive Director, Hassan Shibly.

Amber Soofi started working as an intern for CAIR-Florida’s Immigration division in February of 2015. In the fall of 2015, she began donating her time to victims of discrimination in the Civil Rights division. Because of her dedication, Amber was given the opportunity to work as a temporary Immigration assistant from January to March 2016. As for her recent appointment as Civil Rights Coordinator, the department’s Director, Thania Diaz Clevenger said, “I am pleased to welcome Amber as a full-time staff member for a position that not only is she qualified for but has earned.”

CAIR-Florida is the state’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties of all people, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
